Why Academic WorldQuestTM?

Because our country, and the world, needs student/citizens to step up and lead into the future. Because Sonoma County high school kids are avid for the challenge. And because it’s fun!

Now, the World Affairs Council of Sonoma County is inspired to join with other Councils nationwide, each sponsoring its own competition, with high schools fielding student teams that answer an array of timely questions on world history, geography, and current international events. The result: rousing national finals every year in Washington, D.C.

In a broad sense, with AWQ there are only winners, as young people challenge themselves to strive, grow and show everyone what they can do. And, with the entire country the better for it!

WACSC looks forward to the 2024 competition.

Academic WorldQuest– Full Steam Ahead for 2024!

Last April it was an honor for our WAC chapter to sponsor an Academic WorldQuest competition among Sonoma County high schools. Competing teams were from Petaluma High School, Analy High School and Roseland Collegiate Prep. In May the winning team – from Petaluma High School – traveled to Washington, D.C. to go head-to-head with the best and brightest from coast to coast for a national title. And the four Petaluma High students acquitted themselves admirably!

Next will come the 2024 Sonoma County competition. Plans are underway. Stay tuned!

What we need for the 2023/2024 study season:

  1. Additional Sonoma County high schools to participate.
  2. Donations from private individuals and the business community to support this program.
  3. Volunteers to work directly with schools and teachers.
