What is Academic WorldQuestTM

The purpose of Academic WorldQuest sponsored by World Affairs Councils of America is as follows:

“Preparing the next generation of leaders, scholars and decision makers to thrive in a rapidly changing world – where our national interests are intertwined with the global community – is one of the greatest challenges facing our country. It requires a renewed enthusiasm for global studies in our high schools. Too many American students today fall behind their counterparts from other countries in their knowledge and understanding of world history, geography, and current international events.”

World Affairs Council of Sonoma County (WACSC) is now sponsoring this program

We began our work in 2022, deciding to start small. We have three Sonoma County high schools currently participating: Analy High School; Petaluma High School, and Roseland Collegiate High School. Multiple teams of four students from each school will meet for the regional competition on March 4, 2023. They will answer 100 practice questions submitted by the national organization. The winning team will travel to Washington, DC – all expenses paid by WACSC – to participate in the national championship on April 29, 2023.

What we need for the 2023/2024 study season:

  1. Additional Sonoma County high schools to participate.
  2. Donations from private individuals and the business community to support this program.
  3. Volunteers to work directly with schools and teachers.
