About the Program
We all know what nuclear devastation can mean. It’s a subject we want to look away from, but at what cost? On January 8th, we’ll welcome Dr. David Perry who, with One Man’s Journey at the Nuclear Brink, will share – and update -- the courageous work of his father, former Secretary of Defense Dr. William J. Perry.
Secretary Perry’s ground-breaking initiative with Secretaries George Schultz and Henry Kissinger, along with then Senator Sam Nunn, brought the existential need for nuclear disarmament to the world’s attention. In his talk, David Perry will revisit issues his father cared so deeply about, and update us on where things stand now.
David Perry will describe his father’s transition from a committed Cold Warrior to an anti-nuclear activist, as well as his work to educate the world about the continuing dangers of nuclear weapons now held by nine nations, with the largest arsenals being those of the U.S. and Russia.
A special feature will be rare video and audio clips from Secretary William Perry himself.

About the Author
David Perry was born and raised in California. He received a B.A. in Biochemistry from Harvard in 1970, and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of California, San Francisco. After a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, he was for many years Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology at George Washington University’s School of Medicine and Health Services.
In 2013, Dr. Perry moved to California to join his father, William J. Perry, in the crucial work of presenting the life and death issues of nuclear weapons to the public. He is currently Director of Education for the William J. Perry Project, continuing his diligent work to end the nuclear threat.
