As a Board member, Kerry brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. She has degrees in English and Public Administration and enjoyed careers in journalism and public relations, and as an SRJC Dean of Community Education. On the Board, she fills the all-important role of Secretary. Kerry writes:
Although I’ve lived in California for more than 60 years, I was born on Cape Cod where my dad worked as a reporter for the Cape Cod Standard Times. It wasn’t long before he rejoined the Air Force and I became an “Air Force Brat,” living in the territory of Alaska (before it was a state) and in seven states before I was twelve.
I spent my junior high and high school years in Redlands, California, but moved north for college. I earned my BA degree in English from UC Berkeley, and worked briefly on the student-run Daily Californian.
Degree and skis in hand, I moved to South Lake Tahoe to spend the winter skiing and writing. An assignment to interview Terry Price, then the executive director of a local non-profit youth services agency, changed the course of my life: I fell in love with him, and what was to be a brief stint in Tahoe before heading east, turned into 10 years. I was hired as part of the founding staff of Lake Tahoe Community College, handling public relations and creating the college’s Community Services Program.
In 1983, Terry and I moved to Santa Rosa with two small children so I could take the position of Public Relations Manager at Santa Rosa Junior College. While working at SRJC I earned my Masters of Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. My career at SRJC spanned 29 years. I served initially in public relations and later became an Academic Dean in Community Education, with a year-long interim assignment before I retired as the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Dean.
I am happily retired, and when I’m not playing tennis, I’m volunteering at Bellevue Elementary School, working on the advisory committee for SRJC’s Chamber Concert Series, working on the Board of the Sonoma County Forum, and participating as a member of IMPACT 100 and the Roseland University Prep Advisory Committee. In addition to international travel, we take trips in our camper van to visit our daughter in Colorado and our son in Idaho. We have three adorable (whose aren’t?) grandsons.
I was thrilled to join the World Affairs Council in September of 2023.
