    Summer Thank You Party

    Friday, June 20, 2025 at 3:30 pm

              It's party time again!

In appreciation of your help and support of WACSC, as either a volunteer or a sustaining, fellowship or patron member or donor, we cordially invite you to our “Summer Thank-You Party” on Friday, June 20th, at 3:30 PM.

Informal festivities will be at a unique, park-like setting tucked away in Santa Rosa. Here, you’ll enjoy delectable appetizers along with Sonoma County wine, soft drinks, or a gin and tonic. Oh yes, and a relaxed time on the lawn with other fellow WACSC enthusiasts and supporters.

Please feel free to bring a spouse, significant other, or just a friend.  It's a party!  Please RSVP by June 13th.

The party is our opportunity to show our gratitude close-up and in person for your help in making 2025 one of our best years ever – be it our speaker-luncheons at the Santa Rosa Country Club, or our involvement in Academic World Quest.

We look forward to seeing you on June 20th!

Regarding parking:  space is limited.  Some of those attending may be asked to park nearby in the neighborhood and then be shuttled the short distance to the party by a Board Member volunteer.   It will be fun!

    Best regards,

    Michele Chaboudy, President
World Affairs Council of Sonoma County
    and the all-volunteer leadership crew

    Arms and Algorithms:
    The Future of
    Artificial Intelligence
    in War, Peace, and
    National Security

    with Dr. Andrew Reddie
Associate Research Professor of Public Policy
at the University of California, Berkeley

    Andrew Reddie's sponsor is
    David Beckman, WACSC Board member

    About the Program

How secure is our future? Is artificial intelligence a threat or a manageable tool? AI is reshaping the global conflict and security landscape, so it’s vital that we understand coming changes in military operations, intelligence analysis, and safety.

In his talk, Arms and Algorithms: The Future of Artificial Intelligence in War and Peace, UC Berkeley’s Dr. Andrew Reddie explores the implications of AI for warfare, deterrence, and international stability. His focus will be on decision-support systems, autonomous weapons, ethical dilemmas and yes, all-important guardrails.

Professor Reddie will unpack how AI is already being integrated into national defense strategies, both here and abroad. And what this means for global norms, conflict, and safety. In short, what it means for us.

Members and Guests, please pre-register for this event. Remember, we cannot accommodate walk-ins.

    A CIA Officer's Journey
    From War to Peacebuilding

    With Janessa Gans Wilder
    Ex-CIA Officer and Peacebuilder

    Janessa's sponsors are
Anne and Russ Peterson, WACSC members.

    About the Program

Peace seems elusive in our war-torn world and many wonder what anyone can do about it. Enter Janessa Gans Wilder with A CIA Officer’s Journey from War to Peacebuilding. A California native, Wilder joined the CIA before 9/11, and in 2003 volunteered to serve in Iraq, where a 90-day tour turned into 21 months as a counterinsurgency analyst and political liaison. After a major battle between US Marines and insurgents in western Iraq, she had a personal awakening along the Euphrates River, which ultimately led to her forging a very different path as peacebuilder.

Wilder will take us through her extraordinary journey culminating in her founding of the Euphrates Institute -- a non-profit peace-building organization currently active in over 40 countries.  Along the way she’ll share some lessons learned, including how each of us can play a role in bridging divides in our communities.
